The Certification Programs™ provided by The Academy of Functional Medicine and Genomics / International Academy of Precision Medicine are educational, webinar-based courses which focus on integrating  functional medicine, genomic testing and integrative treatment strategies into other modalities of healthcare such as conventional medicine and psychiatry, chiropractic, osteopathic and physical therapies, nursing, psychology, dentistry, energetic medicine and other complementary and alternative medicine modalities. Participants also have the option of applying their Certification at the Academy of Functional Medicine to a fully accredited Doctor of Health Science in Integrative Healthcare at an affiliated institution, the Huntington College of Health Sciences (www.hchs.edu ). This would involve enrollment in both programs concurrently.

Note: Contact info at Huntington College: Kim Galyon, Director of Admissions, 800-290-4226, ext. 1 or email: [email protected]

The Certification Programs™ are divided into two stages, a basic-science, didactic program which is generally a prerequisite for the second, clinically-focused program, which focuses more on direct patient care using case presentations. However, knowledgeable clinicians already familiar with the basic sciences, functional medicine and genomic testing may elect to opt out of the basic science program unless they are in the Doctor of Health Science in Integrative Healthcare program where it would be a core program requirement to attain an accredited doctorate degree.

The basic sciences portion of the Certification Programs™ provided by The Academy of Functional Medicine and Genomics is 72 webinars (1.5-2 hours each) which are organized into 12 modules (6 webinars each) which generally follows the textbook Laboratory Evaluations for Integrative and Functional Medicine.  Students are expected to listen to these webinars at assigned times and study the textbook.  This course familiarizes students with the science behind each functional test and prepares them for the clinical portion of the Certification Programs™ provided by The Academy of Functional Medicine and Genomics.

Participants who are enrolled in the Doctor of Health Science in Integrative Healthcare at the Huntington College of Health Sciences (www.hchs.edu) will get credit for these courses upon passing the tests provided at regular intervals.  Those enrolled in the Certification Programs™ provided by The Academy of Functional Medicine and Genomics are welcomed to take these tests as well, but it is not a pre-requisite for achieving the certification from the Academy.

PROGRAM 2

Building upon the Basic Sciences program didactic course, the Academy of Functional Medicine and Genomics is proud to announce  a Clinically-Focused course.  While the Basic Sciences program offers a comprehensive, in-depth course on functional medicine and genomics, the Clinically-Focused course offers the practicum on how to apply this extensive knowledge to the treatment of various disorders and disease processes.  Numerous case studies are presented in each Module. The 12 modules are as follows: (each Module has six 1.5 – 2 hour webinars)

CLINICALLY FOCUSED

1)    Mental Disorders (includes Substance Use Disorders) and Functional Medicine and Genomics
2)    Neurological disorders and Functional Medicine and Genomics
3)    Gastroenterology and Functional Medicine and Genomics
4)    Endocrinology and Functional Medicine and Genomics
5)    Immunology (includes Allergic and Autoimmune Disorders) and Functional Medicine and Genomics
6)   Chronic Infections (e.g. Lyme) and Co-infections and Functional Medicine and Genomics
7)   Toxicity/environmental medicine and Functional Medicine and Genomics
8)    Cardiovascular Disease and Functional Medicine and Genomics
9)    Cancer and Functional Medicine and Genomics
10)   Complex Multisystem Dysfunction #1 and Functional Medicine and Genomics
11)   Complex Multisystem Dysfunction #2 and Functional Medicine and Genomics
